Description

The Aero Clock is a fully functioning mechanical wall clock driven by a weight – designed as an air base among the clouds.

Gravity does the work: fill a bag with sand or salt and raise it on its pulleys to wind the clock. As the weight slowly descends, it turns a drive gear, which drives the escape wheel through a reducer. The pendulum engages via the anchor for a steady tick-tock, and sliding its top and bottom weights lets you adjust the clock to the second.

A fixed pointer shows the time on an hour disc and a minute disc that rotate counterclockwise. On the hour, a hot air balloon drops quickly, then slowly rises again over the next hour – this clock's "cuckoo".

A project for several evenings – 320 parts, about 11 hours. Size: 75 × 47 × 16.5 cm.
