Description
The Carousel is a fairground merry-go-round with a rubber band motor and planetary gear: platform and center pole spin in opposite directions.
A wind-up key under the base tensions the rubber bands on the main axle. A pendulum gears the axle down and keeps the movement smooth. Via the planetary gear, the center pole turns against the platform, which makes the carousel look faster than it really is. Crankshafts move the horses up and down as they circle the pole.
You can also turn the carousel by hand and follow the mechanism in slow motion. Little birds and flying lanterns soar above the roof.
