The UGEARS Harry Potter™ series consists of licensed wooden model kits: you press the parts out of laser-cut plywood boards and slot them together without glue. The entry point is around 120 parts; the largest model in the series has 504 parts and measures 90.5 cm. The series is aimed at teenagers and adults.
What sets these models apart from a display figure
The mechanics are part of the kit, not an accessory: spring drives, pull mechanisms and levers take shape as you build and stay visible and working on the finished model.
Wood instead of plastic — what that means for the build
If you are used to building bricks, you are building something different here. The parts sit in plywood boards and are pressed out; some edges are smoothed with the sandpaper provided, and moving parts are treated with wax. That takes longer, and it feels different: wood has grain, weight and smell.
One point that is often misunderstood: a finished model can certainly be taken apart. It is just that slotting wooden parts together takes more effort than clicking plastic bricks together — the fit is tighter and the joints are designed to be assembled once. In practice, a model is therefore built once and then stays that way. If you want to rebuild regularly, plastic bricks will suit you better. Both are good building projects. They are just not the same thing.

Frequently asked questions
Is it like a building-brick set?
No. The parts are made of laser-cut plywood and are pressed out of boards, not taken from a bag. Building takes longer, and the mechanics remain visible on the finished model. On the other hand, a wooden model cannot sensibly be taken apart and rebuilt again and again.
Can I take the model apart again?
Technically, yes. In practice, putting it back together is much more work than with plastic bricks, because the wooden joints fit tightly and are designed to be assembled once. Most people build a model once and then put it on display.
Do I need glue or tools?
No glue — the parts slot together. Some models come with sandpaper and wax to smooth edges and lubricate moving parts.
What age are they for?
The manufacturer rates the Advent calendars as suitable from about age 8 and the other models from about age 14. These are guidelines from the instructions. Younger kids can build along well if an adult takes care of the mechanics.
Are batteries included?
The Harry Potter™ models work mechanically — with springs, rubber bands and levers. Where a model needs batteries, it says so on the product page. Batteries are not included with the kits.
If a part breaks
Spare parts are free. They come directly from the manufacturer, shipped within the EU. All you need is the model name and the part number — the number is on the plywood board and in the instructions.
