About the model
Curvimeter – a learning model that lets you measure distances on a map, even winding ones.
A curvimeter, also known as an opisometer, measures the length of curved lines more precisely than a ruler or compass. The mechanism consists of a measuring wheel, a dial and a hand: as you roll the wheel along a route on the map, the hand moves around a dial marked in units such as centimeters or inches. Multiply the reading by the map scale and you have the real distance.
Handy for planning a hike or a family trip, with no need for electronics or the internet. A QR code in the kit leads you to a learning guide covering the working principle, formulas and assignments. A project for an afternoon – 109 parts, about 2 hours, recommended for ages 8 and up.
Key features:
- Measuring wheel that follows the line
- Hand on a dial marked with measuring units
- Reading times map scale gives the real distance
- For topographic maps, plans and drawings
- Learning guide via QR code
Finished size: 11.5 × 10.3 × 5.7 cm.
