Description
The Lighthouse of Alexandria is a wooden model of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World – and with two LEDs, also a nightlight standing 31 cm tall.
The original, built under Ptolemy I and Ptolemy II at the western edge of the Nile delta, towered over 100 m and was one of the tallest structures in the world. The model is based largely on the surviving historical record: laser engraving recreates stone blocks and shingles, joined by parapets, towers, a catwalk, a cupola and a figure of Zeus clutching a thunderbolt.
Two warm LEDs light the model: one at the top behind the acrylic lens, illuminating the flame cutout, and one inside the main tower, lighting up its latticework. Power comes via USB-C or three AA batteries, with the port and on/off switch at the rear of the base. The gates at front and rear open with turning knobs. A project for a long evening – 340 parts, about 6 hours.

Built to be shown
From 340 parts to an art object for your shelf – built with your own hands.
