Description

The Trimaran Merihobus is a multihull sailboat with an open skeleton-style hull – rudder, sails and winches all work via real rope rigging.

The open hull shows bulkheads, frames and beams like a shipyard model. You steer the rear rudder with ropes that run through the pontoons to the wheel at the stern. The mainsail and staysail can be raised and lowered just like on a real trimaran: the mainsail is set with the main halyard on the mast, while the staysail rolls up on its stay. A lever pulls the sheet and moves the booms.

A project for long weekends – 237 parts, about 12–15 hours. A small seahorse carved into the bow, the merihobus, gives the boat its name.

Key features:

  • Rudder linked by ropes to the wheel at the stern
  • Mainsail and staysail with working booms
  • Staysail winch drum under the bowsprit
  • Anchor winch with automatic tensioning mechanism
  • Load-bearing frame with davit and winch
  • Hydrofoils on the pontoons for stability and a lift effect
