Description
Hexapod Explorer – a six-legged wooden walking robot with a spring motor, purely mechanical, no electronics.
A strong metal spring drives the six legs, and the Hexapod Explorer carries its own weight on them alone, with no auxiliary or support wheel. It walks up to 3 meters, handles slightly uneven ground and steps over obstacles of 1–2 cm. Rubber band foot pads give it traction on smooth surfaces.
You wind it with the ratchet key on its belly; the locking mechanism holds the tension, so there is no need to hold the key. Choose the speed with the dial on the head, then release the switch at the rear. You can change speed at any time, even mid-run. A project for several evenings – 388 parts, about 8 hours.

Laser-cut edges, open mechanics, visible wood grain: every part is laser-cut from plywood so precisely that it fits without glue. Gears, levers and shafts stay visible – the mechanism is part of the design.
Designed by UGEARS, a Ukrainian brand, produced in the EU. We have been bringing the models to Germany as the exclusive importer since 2015 and ship from Germany. If a part breaks while building, spare parts are free.
